Always Present, Rarely Recognized: A Living Newspaper is a partially scripted/partially devised Living Newspaper production focused on misogyny and its impacts on gender-based violence. The Living Newspaper is a 1930s political theatre form that was used by the Blue Blouse groups in the Soviet Union in Germany and the Federal. Theatre project in the United States.
Always Present, Rarely Recognized: A Living Newspaper was developed from research on these historical origins and the collaborative creation techniques adapted from William Head on Stage's 2018 production of The Crossroads: A Prison Cabaret. Research from these case studies were then juxtaposed with experimentations in creation method, audience participation, narration, and technology that occurred at the University of Guelph from January 3033 to April 2023. The goal was to create a contemporary Living Newspaper capable of exploring and confronting modern sociopolitical issues.
